TTA (True Audio) is a free lossless codec that found its niche in CD archiving, particularly in Eastern Europe and Asia — fast to encode, simple by design, and still present in plenty of long-lived collections as .tta files.
Why iPhone can't play TTA natively
iOS does not recognize the format, and TTA support is rare even among third-party players. The usual workaround — batch-converting to FLAC — preserves the audio but means re-processing an archive and verifying the results, for no benefit beyond compatibility.
How BTR AMP plays TTA
BTR AMP decodes TTA directly — support shipped in version 15.0 alongside APE, Musepack, WavPack, and the OGG codecs. Files play losslessly with the exact codec shown per track, and since TTA files carry ID3 metadata, the on-device editor covers their tags, cover art, and ratings. TTA rips sit in the same library as FLAC, APE, and every other format BTR AMP plays.
